Buying used engines from China for resale in Kenya requires two approvals: your team must accept the actual units, and your clearing agent must confirm the shipment requirements. Prepare both before booking freight. This guide is for established engine importers, wholesalers and distributors.
Confirm the KEBS route before shipment
KEBS describes PVoC as pre-export conformity assessment. Ask which certification route applies to your particular used-engine shipment. KEBS — PVoC.
Send your agent the goods description, proposed HS classification, condition, export country and origin information. Ask whether a CoC or other inspection document is required, who can issue it for the China shipment and when it must be ready. Whole-vehicle rules should not automatically be applied to a consignment of engines. Keep written instructions with the order.
Build a file that your clearing agent can use
KRA lists invoices, import declarations and applicable conformity documents among import requirements. KRA — Importation.
Before paying a deposit, agree the consignee details and document names with your agent. Use one line per engine code and supply scope, with quantities and values that reconcile across the quotation, invoice and packing list. Record engines, gearboxes and separately packed accessories clearly; a vague “auto parts” description leaves avoidable questions.
Define the receiving point and quote scope
A quotation to a named seaport is different from a delivered quotation to your warehouse.
If using Mombasa, state whether the goods are for Kenya or onward transit, and name the final country and receiving place. For CIF, request the named port and insurance scope. Separately budget clearance, destination charges and inland delivery with your agent. Do not compare a FOB Guangzhou unit price with a landed warehouse total.
Approve actual units, not just engine names
Give the purchasing team and receiving team the same unit-reference list.
For each offered engine, retain the full code, unit reference, included parts and dated photos. Confirm engine only or engine + gearbox, AT/MT and 2WD/4WD requirements rather than inferring compatibility from the code. A warehouse video shows the environment; it does not replace evidence for the engines you are buying.
How LSVANT supports the purchasing process
LSVANT offers remote purchasing and Guangzhou warehouse visits by appointment. New wholesale orders start from 10 engines. Review individual photos and video records before shipment; standard checks are manual cranking and photo records, not compression, bench or startup tests. Any additional testing is agreed for the particular units. Each used engine needs its own confirmation, even when codes match.
If your list includes 2NZ-FE, review the unit and accessory checks before accepting an offer: 2NZ-FE wholesale purchasing checks.
Prepare a wholesale enquiry
- Company, importer/wholesaler role and reply contact
- Full engine code, version suffix and quantity per line; reference ID if selected
- Vehicle model/year and VIN/chassis if available
- AT/MT, 2WD/4WD; gearbox code if known
- Engine only or engine + gearbox; complete engine/long block and accessories required
- Destination country, named port/receiving place and FOB/CIF scope
- Required unit photos and inspection evidence; mark unknown details “To confirm”
We review the purchasing list, available units and quotation scope. Availability is confirmed for the offer; quote validity does not reserve stock.
