For a Mexican importer or refaccionaria buying motores usados al mayoreo, a low engine price is useful only when the supplied package matches what can be resold. Define motor completo or semicompleto by parts, then price the import and domestic receiving work against that same batch.
Put the importer and classification in place
SAT’s Padrón guidance identifies importer registration, active RFC and an authorised customs representative among the general requirements. SAT importer registration.
Have the Mexican customs agent confirm the applicable fracción arancelaria, NICO, permits and restrictions for each actual engine condition and package. A vehicle-import permit or simplified small-parcel procedure does not establish the route for a commercial container of loose engines. Do not copy a duty rate from an unrelated spare-parts listing.
Define completo by a component matrix
Ask whether the offer includes the fuel system, intake/exhaust assemblies, sensors, harness, ECU, starter and alternator. Describe missing items explicitly. A long block and an equipped assembly may share the same family name while requiring very different preparation for resale.
Keep original engine codes and suffixes unchanged. Add the target vehicle, year and connection photos where available; confirm mounting, sump and transmission interfaces for the offered version. An AT reference does not mean an automatic gearbox will arrive with the engine.
Calculate a usable unit cost
Compare the engine and package price with packing, China handling, freight, insurance, Mexican clearance and domestic delivery. Add the buyer’s expected cost for missing accessories and preparation. Divide the resulting batch cost by the units accepted for the intended sales scope; do not assume every cheaper bare unit gives a better resale margin.
This is a purchasing worksheet, not a tax calculation. Ask the customs agent to assess duties and other charges from the actual classification, value and origin evidence. Shipment from China does not establish Chinese manufacture or preferential origin.
| Offer description | Clarification before acceptance |
|---|---|
| Motor completo | Itemised accessories and missing parts; gearbox separately stated. |
| Motor semicompleto / long block | Exact remaining assemblies and buyer-supplied components. |
| Mixed wholesale batch | Quantities, package labels and original codes per version. |
Connect the import file to your resale stock
Use a supplier unit reference on the approved list, dated photos and packing labels. Retain readable engine-number evidence where present, without altering identifiers. Agree the document set with the importer so receiving staff can reconcile the commercial invoice, packing list and import records before distributing units to branches.
Prepare a wholesale enquiry
Send full codes and quantities, complete/semi-complete requirements, target vehicle details and the Mexican receiving city. State whether you want goods-only or a freight-inclusive comparison. LSVANT supports remote unit review and Guangzhou visits by appointment; standard checks are manual cranking and photos, with other tests agreed separately.
Questions before ordering
Does completo always include ECU and transmission?
No. Only the written included-parts list defines the supply scope.
Can one quotation cover petrol and diesel engines?
Yes as a proposed buying list, with separate lines for codes, condition, accessories and quantities; the actual supply and import route still need confirmation.
