A Toyota 2TR-FE engine code is a useful starting point for a wholesale inquiry. It is not enough, by itself, to confirm that an offered engine matches your vehicles or includes every component your customers need. Importers should compare the application, supplied assembly and evidence for the actual engines before comparing unit prices.

Start with the application, not only “2TR”
Toyota identifies the 2TR-FE as a 2.7-litre petrol engine in its 2004 Japanese-market Prado announcement. Its 2018 Japanese-market Hiace announcement also lists a 2.7-litre 2TR-FE in particular wide-body configurations. These are documented application examples, not a promise that engines from every Prado and Hiace are interchangeable. The market, production year and vehicle configuration still matter.
For each buying-list line, provide the full engine code, target vehicle and year, destination market, VIN or chassis details if available, transmission and 2WD/4WD configuration. Request clear views of the mounting points, sump, intake and exhaust connections, wiring plugs and gearbox interface. Your workshop should compare these with the target vehicle before acceptance; a matching family name or similar photograph is not a fitment confirmation.
Define what the quoted assembly includes
“Complete engine” is a commercial description that needs a written component list. Two 2TR-FE offers may cover different assemblies even when the engine code matches. Agree what will be supplied, what will be reused from the customer’s vehicle and what is excluded. Use these quotation checks:
| Quotation item | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Main assembly | Engine-only, long block or an agreed assembly; identify the actual offered unit. |
| Intake, exhaust and fuel components | List the manifolds, throttle assembly and other required components separately. |
| Electrical accessories | Confirm the alternator, starter, harness, sensors and ECU individually; do not assume inclusion. |
| Transmission and connections | State whether a gearbox is included and provide its code when known. |
| Condition and missing parts | Record visible damage, missing components and any repair history that can genuinely be established. |
Review evidence for the engines being offered
Ask for photographs associated with the offered engine or batch, rather than relying only on catalogue reference images. Useful views include the identification area, front and rear, both sides, sump, connectors and the accessories included in the offer. Where an engine number is legible, ask for a close-up and use it consistently in the agreed list. Do not infer mileage from appearance.
Manual crank rotation, a running video and a compression test are different forms of evidence. One does not establish the result of another. Ask what inspection has actually been completed and whether further records are available for the particular unit. A running clip should be linked to the same engine; a test record should identify its method, date and unit. LESVANT confirms the available evidence with the specific offer rather than promising every test for every engine.
Build a mixed order without losing traceability
If you are buying 2TR-FE engines alongside other codes, keep separate rows for different configurations and accessory requirements. Link the accepted photos or records to the final item list. Before loading, reconcile the quantities and agreed identification references with the packing list, and request available packing and loading records. Container capacity depends on engine size, weight, accessory scope and packing; do not budget around a fixed engine count.
Send a buying list that can be quoted
Send the following together so the sourcing team can check actual supply and prepare a comparable offer:
- Full code: 2TR-FE; quantity required for each configuration.
- Vehicle, year, market, VIN/chassis information if available; transmission and drivetrain.
- Assembly scope, required accessories and gearbox inclusion or exclusion.
- Requested inspection evidence and your acceptance requirements.
- Destination country and port, packing needs and requested freight scope.
A catalogue entry is a model reference, not a live-stock reservation. Availability, price, condition, inspection evidence and shipment terms are confirmed for the offered units. First wholesale orders may start from 10 engines under the agreed commercial terms; this is not a statement that 10 units of every code are in stock.

Questions importers ask
Does a 2TR-FE from a Hiace automatically fit a Prado?
No. The manufacturer examples establish use of the code in specific vehicles. Confirm the exact vehicle configuration, connections and supplied components before purchase.
Does “complete” include an ECU and transmission?
Only when the written offer explicitly includes them. Ask for the component list and photographs of the offered assembly.
Can I request current photos before confirming the order?
Include that requirement in your inquiry. LESVANT will confirm what actual-unit photos and inspection records can be supplied for the offer.
